Saami Inspired Bracelet Basics is an excellent guide to making one of my favorite types of jewelry. Liz Bucheit begins the book with a beautiful quote from Gustav Mahler, "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire." Bucheit's reverence for the craft of Saami bracelet making is evident all throughout the guide book. The photos and detailed instructions make for easy reading, and the additional links provided for online help and ordering of the materials are incredibly helpful. I also love the font size! (No cheaters required to read it.) I look forward to passing my version on to a friend in NYC who took a course with Liz as this book provides the perfect refresher for making these gorgeous traditional pieces of art in your own home or studio.
The product detail and cover picture is very deceiving. I bought this in paperback, it has instructions to make ONE basic style bracelet and has references to 'follow the link' if you need more information. Very bad editing from Internet instructions to paper. The product description states 'bold type' text, when in fact it is printed with large font, making the book larger than it needs to be. The best parts are the photos, they are very large to show details, but some are blurry because of the size. This book is more of an advertisement to buy from their supply shop.
While this book does an okay job of explaining how to make the simplest of bracelets, it is really a tutorial that could have been half the size for half the price. I felt ripped off by the price. Also, the front cover shows other bracelet designs, but the book is only for the simple 3 strand braid on the inset of the cover where it says "make this bracelet".
If you're looking to have a step by step guide that is exactly like taking the class then this is the book your looking for.
This book provides just what you need to create saami bracelets. The instructions are concise and the photos are clear- walking you through the process. I also used the video links and found those helpful as well.
Lovely book, great instructions.
Very easy read, gave me the basics with really good pictures that helped me have success with my first attempt
