If you are intetested in witchcraft at all, I highly recommend this book. It is very informative, spot on, and well explained. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could! Raven is a great aurhor!

I have wanted so much to explore the OLd Religion of Southern Europe. Once I opened this book, it was not easy to put it down. If you ever wanted to know what your grandmother was talking about back in the day, this is the book to find your answer. I am thrilled with this book. Received it in a very short time after ordering. Great deal!!!

This book enables and teaches you the Old Ways, so that you can incorporate them into your own practices. It has beautiful rituals and my favorite is The Passage of the Soul. This book is more informative than most others. I have owned it before, a signed copy. However along the path it was taken, so years later I purchased another copy. Because without it, I have no other reference that I deem as worthy. It is one of a kind

I think the problem with true crime is often that reality just can't compare with fantasy. Stories don't come together neatly, as they do in fiction. The endings aren't what we want. There is often a sense of lingering unfulfillment, and questions that are never answered. I have read most of Amazon's First Reads true crime novels, and none have ever gripped me so much as this one. The story that was slowly revealed was profoundly disturbing, shocking, and not at all what I expected. So many lies, so much abuse, narcissism, manipulation, and mental illness.This story was incredible, and from 50% on I literally couldn't put the book down. And that was also the point at which I stopped trying to guess who I'd end up the most angry at, or where I'd place the most blame... Mostly because with each new piece of the story, everything shifted.What a wrenching experience. I have never once thought to myself that I'd reread a true crime novel, but I'll reread at least the last half of this book again, and then maybe again. It was utterly gripping, and wove together emotion, truth, and conjecture into a story that will stick with me for a very, VERY long time!

I have been enjoying read crime and true crime stories lately, which is why I decided to read this book. I was looking forward to finding out the "why" for this crime. What drove this mother to try to murder 2 of her 3 children? The answer... we don't know. Every trail Nancy Rommelmann goes down either is a dead end or a loop that shifts the blame onto someone else. There is no resolution. No answer. At least her surviving children are doing better without her- they're fed and cared for.I am fine with a book that has a sad ending. I am not happy with a book with an incomplete ending.Now for the other main problem I had with this book: the writing. Miss Rommelmann has written many books and articles over the years, but you'd never know it. She jumps from 1st & 3rd person frequently- I can excuse chapter to chapter or when she stated the crime and events the day of at the beginning of the book- but my issue was how quickly it would change without a segway. There are flashbacks (which may or may not deal with this case) that interrupt the main story. Half of the time when someone is speaking, there aren't quotation marks. Sometimes when she is taking with someone there are no quotation marks and it reads like a thought. Conversations and thoughts should be written differently. The timeline of things leading up to the crime is jumbled. And half-way though the book she spends several pages talking about a completely different crime. She rewrites the story of the crime with just a teeny bit more detail at least 3 times. I stopped counting after a while. It's poorly written and I'm mad that I wasted my time on it.

As a fan of true crime novels, I had hoped this book would be similar to the brilliant writings from Ann Rule. To my disappointment, thus book was rambling nonsense that did not follow a consistent time line. Character development was weak and the author felt the need to randomly insert herself into the story. A waste of my June First Read.

I knew nothing about this story before reading this book. Therefore I was very curious to learn about the facts of this case. Alao, as a trained psychologist, I was curious to see the personalities and potential motivations laid bare through the story. Both of these were accomplished for me in this writing. However, the writing style itself left something to be desired for me. I often felt lost in understanding to whom the author was speaking. My understanding would have benefited by more consistent chronicity in the telling and by more consistent use of quotation marks to delineate to whom the author is speaking or even who was speaking. When I see no quotation marks I assume the author is speaking only to me, the reader. But that was often not the case in this book. Nevertheless, it's a good read despite being somewhat challenging to a person used to APA style writing.

Many people NEED to read this book. Many, even most, will hate the basic story, but, we all need to understand the mindset here, if we are to find a way to prevent more of these sorts of horrors.Okay, there is a specific reason this tale struck home. That reason is part of the explanation as to why I am so moved. Other, even more telling reasons, concern two close relatives of mine (remaining anonymous for now) who wreaked horrific nightmares upon their children. Perhaps few living people can appreciate my deep understanding for the combined effects of drugs and sex within American society…Due to an uncanny set of ironies, part of me wanted to resist reading this story. Because of those ironies, I found that I HAD to read this book. A paradox similar to a something in Stephen King’s most recent novel, “The Outsider.” ‘CAN’T MUST.’Let me explain. The first irony is that I recollect bits of this true story from the weeks just before my wife and I moved from our home near Portland, Oregon to North Dakota in June, 2009. That, however, is not the more chilling coincidence.Today, our church is hosting a funeral for another child murdered by his mother. The young son of a chiropractor was tossed from a hotel room in New York, and followed by his mother. His uncle is my chiropractor here and his grandmother did a story about a bakery I once started in town. So, yes, this story comes about as close to home as any nightmare I might wish to endure.What I mean is, it boggles the mind to know that this true story about a woman tossing two of her children into a river (one died) is available to read on the very day that a local friend’s nephew, who was killed in much the same way, is being buried in my adopted home town. I was at work, 25 miles away, so could not attend the funeral with my wife. I guess, in a spiritual sense, I am taking part in that funeral by grieving over the facts of another murder?I trust readers of this review will not be too put off by my introduction, but I do feel I must put this true story review into perspective.BLUSH FACTOR Aside from the profane nature of the topic itself, the number of spoken profanities is not excessive. Still, the few f-words might concern a few people who might choose to read it to a child or a fellow member of the church book club.WHAT GRABBED MY ATTENTION As nonfiction, this reads much more as though it were a novel. Good flow, the sort of grammar that rings true to the ear. The writer spends a good deal of effort in setting the scene.WHAT PERPLEXED ME Maybe this is because I write reviews the way this author writes this book. She tends to explain herself in the story. For me, it interrupts the flow of the work, much as some review readers tell me my reviews do. [Mental note: consider reducing my interjection of self into reviews.]IS THERE ANY HUMOR IN THIS DARK TALE Yes. I pops up at about location 789. It’s the definition of a three-time loser. Coming at the point it does, it tickled my funny bone.POINT OF VIEW This is written in multiple points of view. Some is first person, but most is third person.OTHER SALIENT POINTS The story includes photos and a sketch, which help to bring the story to life. Also, the writer skillfully interweaves bits and pieces regarding other crimes where in mothers murdered their children.EXCERPT‘…Sabrina Trembley pulled her car to the end of the car line for Living Savior Lutheran Preschool. If the car line had always bugged her—these were preschoolers, for goodness’ sake, so why in the world should parents not be allowed to walk their four-year-olds to class?—today she was especially annoyed. It had been only two days since Eldon was killed; were they expected to stay honeycombed in their cars and interact as little as possible?Sabrina couldn’t do it. She couldn’t drive up like everything was normal and drop off her son. She swung the car around and parked in the church parking lot. It was a beautiful clear morning. She opened the car doors and sat there with Max. The car line looked longer than usual because the school doors had not opened on time. Sabrina was under the impression that teachers came early to pray together before school started. What could that have been like this morning, absorbing the news about Eldon while planning how to keep the kids happy all day?When the doors opened, Sabrina saw how strained things were. The teachers wore grim half smiles while trying to sound ordinary: “Hi, Daphne. Oh, here’s Athena.” Their former classmate had been murdered by his mother, and yes, what Amanda had done was unspeakable, but did that mean they were supposed to act as though it had not happened?Sabrina thought the email the school sent over the weekend, essentially a “we regret to inform you” note, had been vastly inadequate. About the Author

I have always loved creating and I suppose that if I was only allowed to choose two words to describe myself they would be, "Focused ambition." Yet, the art of writing was something that lived a quiet life, in the back of my mind, for many years. It was a dormant desire and, like so many of our dreams, it was placed on a list of things to do later; you know, when time would allow it. And there I left it. Half-forgotten. For a long time. I have a Finnish sauna to thank for eventually picking it up from that dusted corner and beginning to pour my focused ambition over it. Every summer (almost) my wife, two boys and I go to Finland and spend a couple of weeks trying to do as little as possible. In that cottage it is all about slowing down and recharging our batteries. The atmosphere is perfect for it. What it was exactly that sparked my authorship I cannot say for sure - maybe it was just slowing down that gave another perspective? Maybe I was just ready for it? Whatever it was, I'm ever thankful that it happened when it did back in 2015. Why wait when you can act today?

OK as far as it goes. A brief intro to the intellectual processes involved in designing a fantasy world map. For the price, i would have liked more. For example, a more extensive list of software, and some work-in-progress illustrations showing how a map can be built up step by step, and the consequences of making one choice rather than another.The book is also a mechanism for marketing the author's software. I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is including a link inside the book which doesn't work, also having to search through many webpages for over ten minutes to find out what technical platform the software requires (it is Windows).There are also some minor typographic issues.This book has good bones and there is nothing wrong with the basic approach it takes to the topic. The problem is, it's a bit rough and ready, and ultimately I was disappointed by what I got for the money.

I have been a fantasy and science fiction cartographer for almost 25 years. This was a very simple read, lots of whitespace, done in a casual, hands-on folksy manner with examples. This is for the absolute beginner Gamer or Fantasy novelist who is curious or wants to design a basic map, but has no idea how or where to start. If you are already using Gimp, Photoshop, Campaign Cartographer 3(+), Hexographer, or Inkarnate, you can skip this text as you already have the tools this author recommends. Not really in depth, the author covers the basics of continent outline, climate bands, groundcover very basic tectonics, more or less at an early high school level of overview. So if you have a teenage child starting out as a GM, this would be an okay starter. If you are an aspiring novelist looking for a really deep worldbuilding resource, this is not that sort of in-depth treatment. It is nice that the author goes step by step, with some color graphics examples showing how to do a basic continent, some forests, cities, mountains, and rivers, with Campaign Cartographer at a very very introductory level, ending with a very simple map. The author is also encouraging, and seems to be actively promoting the community, via twitter / social media.

As a major worldbuilder for my novels, I have always strived to learn more and to try and be as professional as possible in creating worlds. I picked this book up as an affordable resource because you never know when you might learn something new.Overall the book is fairly decent. There is a lot of “common sense” stuff, but it is stuff I have seen other authors overlook or make mistakes on, so it is good not to assume everyone knows the basics.While it does seem to be geared more for amateur worldbuilders, there is also some decent info in here for more experience folks too. The section about wind patters and climate bands was very enlightening, which is why I decided to give the book the round up to four stars.The loss of stars, though, is because there were some “absolutes” given as rules by the author that are inaccurate. The one that bugged me most was along the lines of “rivers merge, they don’t divide”. While that is generally true, river bifurcation is possible with the right conditions. I actually researched river bifurcation before having a river split in the world I created for my Chadash Chronicles. I think it would behoove the author to do some research on river bifurcation and flesh out his section on rivers with that more complete and accurate information.I found the above doubly irritating because right after saying that, on the author’s own example map, he has a river split TWICE before reaching the ocean. The irony of that flub cost a star.The other half star came from his absolute that “forests can’t be next to deserts”. That also is not true. There are a number of real world examples of this, although generally this is because the desert is overtaking forestland. In fact, the Sahara used to be lush green land, according to some scientists. So while desert nexts to forests are not the norm, again some more fleshing out of the exceptions and conditions under which this general rule might be violated would make this a much stronger, better, and more complete book.All in all I would recommend it to beginning worldbuilders as for the most part it does have some good general rules to make more realistic worlds/maps. With the fleshing out I mentioned above (perhaps in a Second Edition) this could go from good to fantastic as far as worldbuilding resources go.

The information is just enough to make sure water doesn't flow uphill or other nonsensical features of some fantasy maps. However, he could have used a better editor. There are numerous word choice errors, e.g. parameter for perimeter, and the like.

I'll give the book credit that it does have some useful perspectives like tectonic plates and climate implications on the realism of a world map. However, This book fell way short of my expectations. There is no good step by step DETAILS of actually MAKING the map itself. For example, I'm looking at including a forest and desert region on my map, what icons or graphics should I use to represent these? Nothing even close to that is in this book. In fact there aren't ANY GOOD examples of actual fantasy maps. And definitely not enough information for someone to actually sit down and draw a good map. The book gives you tips for THINKING about what a good map should have in generalities, but in my mind it really missed the mark as far as an actual Guide for map making. I also purchased "How to draw Fantasy Art & RPG Maps" by Jared Blando which I found to be much more helpful. Although it still lacked the samples I'm looking for like a legend / sample of different forest types, landscapes, and various ways of drawing certain features. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Fantasy Map Making for people who want to actually draw their own maps. You can get all this same high level info off of a few youtube videos and free online reading.
