My 3 year old son loves this book! We read and reread all the time, for the last 7 months.
Frank is a firefighter and in this story we learn what a typical day for him looks like. He checks fire hydrants, helps people in road accidents, and is sure to stay in shape to be fit and healthy. Today, he gets a call that the school is on fire! Frank and his colleagues rush over and help and we see step by step what he does.Kids fascinated by trucks and/or firefighters will love this story. It is a great way to start a conversation about fire safety and what to do in an emergency. The firefighters are portrayed as very friendly and hopefully will encourage kids to identify them as people who can help them out if needed. In the back of the book other "busy people" that firefighters work with are profiled- such as paramedics, police officers, and 911 operators. There is also a list of prompt questions having to do with fire safety and children (ex: Discuss what makes fire dangerous and why we should never play with it.) Simple enough for kids to understand, but detailed enough to be a good conversation starter.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. My 4 year old loved it! It was a very well written, descriptive book. The illustrations were great too! Very bright and vivid colors! I loved how it told about all of the equipment that firefighters use and also explained the people that work with firefighters to help in emergency situations. At the end of the book, it gives discussion questions, which are great to use in a classroom setting or with your own children at home.
