What a great beginners guide for anyone who want to learn and use essential oils. Alexa Moore has written a easy to read and understand book that allows the reader to learn about the different oils, how to use them, what they can be used for, and recipes with applications for the oils. This book is informative and so very helpful. I have been using oils for a while and found some oils listed in here I did not even here about yet so I found some new oils I want to try and new ways to use my essential oils. A great find and would make a nice gift to someone you know who is starting to use essential oils. This book also covers so many uses from looking and feeling younger, insomnia, stress, and even illness. It is a wonderful guide and the included 89 recipes with directions for application and use with each recipe I feel you cannot go wrong. The best part if the book does not suit you it is covered by a 100% money back guarantee. The digital download even has a link to take you to a nice website to purchase oils. I really enjoyed this book and Alexa Moore is very good explaining the oils and their uses. My only problem and why I removed a star as I wish there was some listings to show where this information came from or the author's credentials regarding teaching about essential oils. So I read it with having to fact check it myself as I do with all my guides like this without the author's credentials listed.**I was provided a copy of this book for free to read for a honest, unbiased review. My opinions are my own.**

To date, I only have lemon, peppermint, clove and lavender essential oils in my arsenal, and wish to expand upon this collection, which is why a book like this can be useful. The book is a quick read, and I learned about the various properties of different essential oils. I liked that I could easily find information on the specific essentials oils that I own because I've been wondering how to best use them, and I was able to discover other essential oils I had no idea existed. The bulk of the book is comprised of 89 essential oil recipes that really come in handy when you're looking for natural remedies for the face, skin, hair, colds, and internal health. I might just have to try the Under Eye Cream with Baobab recipe for healthier-looking eyes that is also meant to help you sleep better. The Enchanting Car Perfume sounds like the perfect way to make a vehicle smell good, and take advantage of an aromatherapy pick-me-up. The process of making Au Passion with rose essential oil and vodka sounds really interesting to me. I learned an interesting fact about using a diffuser and became more interested in sandalwood oil.Writing-wise, there are grammatical errors, poor sentence structure and a lack of proofing present…I even came across an unintentional curse word in the text. I felt many areas could have been elaborated upon, and I was left wanting more in the actual text of the book. Statements were made, and the opportunity to add valuable information or to provide a solid explanation was lost, in my eyes. Also, a statement was made that essential oils have zero side effects, which is not true since some can cause skin irritation among other things. However…… if you're looking for a way to put your essential oils to good use, then this is a nice resource to add to your library. I'm not an absolute amateur when it comes to knowing the background information on essential oils, but I haven't created any recipes before, so the number of recipes in the book is satisfying. I think the layout of the recipes, corresponding directions, and explanations are concise and arranged well. But, in the end, the lack of solid proofreading and a few statements I find confusing for a total amateur knocked this book from a 4-star to a 3-star rating.Disclosure: I received a free sample copy in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

Essential Oils are something that I have on my must try list but I have never checked off, for whatever reason. So when I was approached to review this book, I said ok.This book is fantastic for those who are first time Essential Oils user or people who have been using them for a while. The author did a great job explaining the different ways to use them and the different types of oils and what they do.The recipes had to be my favorite part of the book. I loved reading through them and they very simple. Even a Essential Oils noob, like myself, could easily make them. Will I read the book again? YesWill I reccomend it to family and friends? YesAge range? Teens on up. Younger than teens could do this with parental supervision.Disclaimer: I received Essential Oils: Ultimate Essential Oils Guide and 89 Powerful Essential Oils Recipes for free through Splett Sports for my honest review. All opinions expressed in this review are mine and mine alone. I received no financial compensation for this review.

I received this e-book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.Living with chronic pain, I've been using essential oils for quite awhile to help with my pain. This books is a very good guide for those starting out to learn about oils, but it's also full of information for those already using oils. It provided me with a few pieces of information I didn't know and I made sure to bookmark the recipes I think I may find useful. The author also mentions several oils which I may have to try out in the future to help with my pain. I'm always looking for new things to help, so I'm grateful she provided a few new suggestions. I feel like this book could have been much longer with a lot more information, but it's still a good basic book.I did try one of the headache mixture recipes with a few adjustments just because I didn't have all of the oils mentioned. I also added a few oils which I know are good for headache pain. Unfortunately I haven't tried other recipes because she does use quite a few oils which I don't have so I would have to substitute a few things or leave them out all together. The only thing I'm iffy on with this book is the mention of using oils in food. It was my understanding you must use food grade oils, and I don't feel the author emphasized this enough. She does mention the danger of using oils, but this could be very dangerous if someone new to oils chose to use the wrong oils in their food!

This is probably the worst book I've ever received. Characters are not marked. There is no formatting. It is just a wall of text. Don't buy this. Get a different copy of this play.

I absolutely love having this resource for my classroom! Any recording by Arkangel is true to the Shakespearean script which is often difficult to find since many are simply adaptations. The actors' voices and sound effects help both the struggling and seasoned student follow along and grow to appreciate the beauty that is a Shakespearean drama. I wish I could find other recordings.

I was assigned "Othello: Texts and Contexts" for a class on race in Shakespeare. I'd read "Othello" before, but I really felt that this edition deepened my understanding of the play. The Cinthio story that inspired Shakespeare to write "Othello" is included, there are many informative essays and first-hand sources. These are divided into chapters such as "Race and Religion" and "Marriage and the Household" that make it easy to find the information you're looking for. In addition to essays on attitudes during Shakespeare's day, there's a section entitled "Encounters with Othello" that focuses on interpretations of "Othello" throughout history. Included in this section are exerpts from fiction, artistic representations, poetry, and even scripts for controversial Black face performances. The introduction also has some interesting arguments about color blind casting of the play, including Patrick Stewart's "photo negative" performance from 1997. The essays and sources included are relavent and understandable. I also appreciated the guideline questions that preface them."Othello" is one of Shakespeare's greatest works. It combines themes of race, alienation, and loyalty and betrayal, asking more questions than it gives answers. "Othello: Texts and Contexts," can give any reader insights into the play, and to the cultures that have performed it. Great for students and Shakespeare enthusiasts.

After having graduated from college 19 years ago, I was a little intimidated about reading Shakespeare again. However, the Folger Library makes reading Shakespeare much easier to follow (& more fun)! The words that appear as "foreign" to the modern English reader are briefly explained on the left side of each page -- which makes the text easier to follow. I only wish they had these words in bold, because I ended up highlighting the words that are referenced. Because of this, however, I don't have to read a synopsis of each act or scene before delving into the actual text!Othello is such an interesting play that I find it hard to put it down! I definitely plan on reading more Shakespeare's plays from the Folger Library!!!

Having read a number of Shakespeare tragedies while in high school, I was well aware that in any of them a whole bunch of people are going to die . I'm not quite sure how but I had somehow missed Othello in my Shakespeare reading days, but of course one usually has an idea of what it is about even without reading it.So the question remains, if I knew what it was about and how it was going to end, why should I bother to read it? Would the experience, be worth the effort expended, I wondered and finally after four decades, I decided that it would indeed. While knowing that Othello will be convinced by the evil Iago to kill his faithful wife, Desdemona, the experience of reading Othello is enjoyable for its lush language, and very human story.Iago is perhaps king of evil manipulators. We've all met some, I think and hopefully the experience has taught us to be cautious of those with a silken tongue, but poor Othello, although a general, is a bit of a gullible fool. The reader watches in awe as Iago weaves his web around Othello, to bring about his downfall. Warning Othello of the nature of jealousy, in an effort to further fan the flames Iago says:"O, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the green-eyed monster which doth mockThe meat it feeds on."To tempt Cassio into drinking more Iago replies:"Come, come, good wine is a good familiar creature, if it be well used."After reading Othello, I believe it was well worth it and would encourage others to do so as well.

"Put up your bright swords, or the dew will rust them!""Oh thou weed, that smellst so sweet that the senses ache at thee...I'll smell it on the tree..."Paul Robeson not only has the most wonderful voice, but is a superb actor as well. His deep, flexible, expressive tones seem to be going exactly where they are inclined to go, instead of where a man writing over 400 years ago, in what we call "Shakespearian English" (closer to ours than middle English--but not quite there) dictated. Uta Hagen ("and I remain behind, a moth of peace...Let me go with him!") is also perfect. When I first got the 33 1/3 RPM record (as close to 1950 as possible), I loved Jose Ferrer as Iago, with his India-rubber ball voice, best of all. He is great, but sometimes I find his scenes with Othello so insinuating (after he has begun to feed Othello his "poison" Othello: "Well then--I do believe-- Desdemona's honest." Iago: "Long live she so! And long live you to [very insinuating] think so." One sometimes wonders at Othello's gullibility [which is of course part of his character..but still...]} Iago floats over his "motive-hunting of motiveless malignancy" to perfection. Everything moves toward its inevitable conclusion, with Iago pushing, pulling, tacking, fashioning "the net/ that shall enmesh them all."I was too young to see this performance (8 in 1943); it's one of many things I wish I could go back in time for.If you can enjoy listening to a Shakespeare play, instead of watching it--do yourself a good turn, and get this one!

Of all the things I expected to read about from Shakespeare, from love to politics, racism was not one of those. Yet here it is, a story that could have been written for modern times minus the dense and artful use of the English language. Can't believe I never got around to this one, or seen a play about it.

#106,325 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

This is a wonderful collection which I own in hardback. I love it so much I purchased the E-Book as well.UNFORTUNATELY I am extremely disappointed in the E-Book. It does not have a FULL TABLE OF CONTENTS. It only has section headings which make it impossible to browse poems or poets and read individual poems. This defect IMO makes the ebook useless and I have returned it for a refund.I should also point out that the companion book - Good Poems for Hard Times does not have this defect. Each poem is listed by name in it's Table of Contents, but does not include the poet name as part of that entry.

What a trove this book is. You might think "What does humorist Garrison Keillor know about poetry?" Quite a lot, it turns out. This is a wonderful anthology of poetry especially for anyone discovering poetry for the first time or rediscovering poetry after a bad high school English experience. Most of the poems in this volume are quite accessible.Keillor chose his poems from the past as well as the present but with the selections skewed more toward contemporary poets. I found many gems: all the poems by Raymond Carver and Charles Bukowski are oustanding, "Poem to be Read at 3 A.M." by Donald Justice, "He Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven" by Yeats, "Sonnet XLIII" by Millay, "The Music One Looks Back On" by Stephen Dobyns, and "Bison Crossing Near Mt. Rushmore" by May Swenson are some of my very favorites in this thick volume. I read only a few poems at a time, so this book took me more than 5 months to read.As with any anthology, I found a few poems I didn't like: "Piano" by D.H. Lawrence, "Sweater Weather" by Sharon Bryan, "Year's End" by Richard Wilbur, and "Lazy" by David Lee were among the few poems I thought were bad. And I'm still struggling to like anything by Dickinson. Keillor includes several of her poems. There are a couple of minor miscues in the book. For some reason, Keillor left out biographies for Robert Kinsley and H. W. Longfellow. And one poem - "Sir Patrick Spens" - was much shorter in "Good Poems" than it is in another volume of poetry that I have. This makes me question the editing of other poems in the volume.I can highly recommend this book of poems. There is something in it for all readers of poetry. Be sure to read the bios as you go; they provide useful back story to what you are reading. One word of caution: the Kindle version of this book is terrible. Don't waste your money; be sure to read a paper copy.

For years I have kept a hardcover copy in my car, and instead of listening to the radio on the way to work I would begin by opening the book at random and reading a poem before I left the driveway. Then I would think about the poem on the twenty-minute drive to work. Now I also have it on my iPad. Although there are many great poems that are not in this book, all the poems are very good.

Garrison Keillor continues in his quest to bring poetry to the man and woman on the street in this his third collection of poems "as heard on the Writer's Almanac." Certainly he is to be commended for being the one individual who has done more than anyone else-- with the possible exception of perhaps Bill Collins--to bring new poetry converts into his church. Many is the time that I have sat in my car, having arrived at my destination before Mr. Keiller has finished his poem for the day in that immediately recognizable soothing voice of his, to get a fix for the day from his reading. (And sometimes I have ordered an obscure volume of poetry from an unknown poet he has just read, only to discover that too often Mr. K. has read the best poem in the collection!)No amateur with words, himself, Mr. Keillor writes a decent introduction about his childhood in Minnesota, family travels, and how grade school teachers ruin poetry for our youth. "Americans are impatient with riddles and so they give poetry a wide berth, knowing from Miss Fernwood's 8th grade English class that a page of writing with an uneven right margin means a series of jokes with no punch lines, a puzzle with no right answers." Too often poets whom Keillor describes as "upward-striving" write about Europe, but not the writers he has selected in this collection of over 260 poems. He gives a whole laundry list of subjects that these poems write about, purely American, and Europe be damned.Mr. Keillor includes a lot of poems from poets I know and like: Wendell Berry, Robert Bly, Charles Bukowski, Raymond Carver, Billy Collins, Stephen Dunn, Allen Ginsberg, Donald Hall, Robinson Jeffers, Galway Kinnell, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Grace Paley, Kenneth Rexroth, Theodore Roethke, W. D. Snodgdrass, Gary Snyder, William Stafford, John Updike, James Tate, Marge Percy, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Sara Teasdale, May Sarton, Donald Justice, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William Carlos Williams, Anne Sexton, Dana Gioia--and of course the father and mother of twentieth century American poetry, Mr. Whitman and Ms. Dickinson. Mr. Keiller even includes Johnny Cash for his "Folsom Prison Blues." (I cannot imagine, however, hearing anyone read this poem rather than sing it.)There are even more poets I've never heard of in this big collection in praise of America. My two favorites are from poets previously unknown to me: The first is "Bridal Shower" by George Bilgere, a poem that resonated with me to the 12th power. I suspect others feel just as strongly about people who talk on cell phones in public. Here is the poem in its entirety.Perhaps in a distant café,Four or five people are talkingWith the four or five peopleWho are chatting on their cell phones this morningIn my favorite café.And perhaps someone there,Someone like me, is watching them as they frown,Or smile, or shrugAt their invisible friends or lovers,Jabbing the air for emphasis. And, like me, he misses the old days,When talking to yourselfMeant you were crazy,Back when being crazy was a big deal. Not just an acronymOr something you could take a pill for.I liked itWhen people who were talking to themselves might actually have been talking to God or an angel. You respected people like that. You didn't want to kill them,As I want to kill the woman at the next tableWith the little blue light on her earWho has been telling the emptiness in front of herAbout her daughter's bridal showerIn astonishing detailFor the past thirty minutes.O person like mePhoneless in your distant cafe,I wish we could meet to discuss this,And perhaps you would help meMurder this woman on her cell phone,After which we could have a cup of coffee,Maybe a bagel, and talk to each other,Face to face. The second poem, from a section named "Never Expected To Be There" is on a totally different subject, one that will tear your heart out, "Meadowbrook Nursing Home" by Alice N. Persons. The narrator of the poem takes her cat Lucy, who is fifteen and "getting creaky herself," to visit Mrs. Harris in a nursing home. Mrs. Harris speaks:"I had a cat called Lily--she was so pretty, all white. She was with me for twenty years, after my husband died too.She slept with me every night--I loved her very much. It's hard, in here, since I can't get around."Lucy was settling in on the bed."You won't believe it, but I used to love to dance.I was a fool for it! I even won contests.I wish I had danced more. It's funny, what you miss when everything. . . . . is gone."This last was a murmur. She'd fallen asleep. The narrator then goes home and dances to Tina Turner. This poem, to paraphrase Mr. Keillor in describing Emily Dickinson's poetry in his first collection of poems GOOD POEMS, will take your head off.Thank you, Mr. Keillor, for another fine collection of poems with something for everyone.

I was recommended this book from a Reddit post. I really like this collection of poems. They are thoughtful, deep, and sad but often from poets I don't know. It's a great companion to have on a sad day.

This book opened a door for me and for that I am very grateful. As other reviewers have stated it isn't a collection for the highbrow connoisseur but I can't believe anyone would regret having it on the shelf. Keillor's introduction is a fun and rewarding read in itself, he has always done a great job of bringing "culture" to the masses and in the introduction he does an admirable job of explaining why poetry can be appreciated by ANYONE.This book offers up a variety of poets like Emily Dickinson, Howard Nemerov, Yeats, Billy Collins and more to the uninitiated reader in a way that makes you want to read more of their work. Keillor treads the line between urbane sophist and common man with wit and humility.
