I loved Dr. Mosley's book, "The FastDiet". In that book he shares how to use intermittent fasting to lose weight. Instead of the drudgery of dieting seven days a week, you lower calories (500 for women, 600 for men) two days a week and eat normally the other days. I had some success initially and I love the concept but found it hard to stick with 500 calories on fast days because of blood sugar issues. I am convinced fasting works from the fasting Facebook groups I participate in (the before and afters are amazing) but because of blood sugar decided to try traditional diets again (which sucked :( ). Then I came across a video by Dr. Jason Fung on how to cure diabetes. In the video Fung, the author of The Obesity Code, shares how insulin resistance and diabetes can be cured with fasting. The video inspired me to revisit Intermittent Fasting and I came across Dr. Mosley's new book. "The 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet".Studies have shown that when people with type 2 diabetes have bariatric surgery which forces a reduction in calories, they not only lose weight but in many cases their blood sugar returns to normal.This indicates that diabetes and insulin resistance are reversible. However, not many people can or want to go to the expense or pain of weight loss surgery. But if you are motivated enough you may be able to achieve the same benefits with Dr. Mosley's blood sugar diet plan. In the plan you eat a very low calorie diet - 800 calories a day for eight weeks. Because you combine it with a Mediterranean diet keeping your insulin levels on an even keel you are more likely to stick to it and do it. However 800 cals a day - day after day, requires a lot of discipline.If you have difficulty sticking to such a low calorie count for eight weeks he has a variation of this (explained below) which is alot easier and very doable.Dr. Mosley's plan is a three-pronged approach; diet,exercise and mindfulness.The diet:In the book Mosley sites examples of people who have stuck to 800 and enjoyed astounding results. But as soon as I saw 800 calories a day for eight weeks, I knew it was a no-go for me. I am not that disciplined but fortunately Mosley has another option. You can also do 800 calories two days a week and eat the Mediterranean way the other days. BINGO! It just hit me as right way to do it for me. Before when I tried fasting I had difficulty sticking to 500 calories but 800 was very doable. In addition, I like the idea of the delicious Mediterranean way of eating the rest of the week for health and to keep blood sugars level. Naturally weight loss will be slower but the trade off is worth it for me. On his website he also says folks who can't tolerate fasting can do the Mediterranean diet 7 days a week.The second prong to the plan is a simple exercise program which includes walking (building up to 10k steps a day) and weight training (3x a week) and if you like you can add in high intensity training. I love the exercise program because like the eating plan it is very doable.And finally Mosley includes mindfulness to release stress and tension. He recommends an app and shares guided exercise for breathing and relaxation.The back of the book includes 50 recipes with calorie counts; Breakfasts and Brunches, Soups, Salads and Lunches, Suppers, Quick and Easy and Guilt Free Baking. Sample recipes included are Yogurt with Passion Fruit and Almonds, Ricotta, Pear and Walnut Salad, Cheesy Baked Beans, Spicy Chicken and Lentils. I really like the Simple Suppers section which includes five ways to jazz up a chicken breast, three ways with cauliflower rice, three quick soups etc.So I devoured the book and started with the 800 calories right away. 800 calories was just enough that I felt a little hungry but wasn't ready to chow down on dirt - very doable. I popped on the scale this morning and was down. I also feel less bloated and so motivated!So now I'm off to get in some of those 10K steps. I will keep you updated on my progress!UPDATE: Dr. Mosley's work on IF (intermittent fasting) has totally changed my approach to weight loss. I am a member of several IF groups and members have had phenomenal results. However, I have found that eating 800 calories two days a week is hard for me to stick with long term. So I am following a 16:8 intermittent fasting plan (fast for 16 hours, eat in an 8 hour time frame). I find 16:8 very easy to do. The best weight loss plan is the one you can stick with!

This book saved my life I went from 271 to 230 lbs and lowered my blood sugar to normal levels !!!!!!!!!

Excellent book. In 8 weeks I've gone from 170 to 145. 800 calories per day is not very hard. My fasting blood sugar from 140 to 95. Stopped blood pressure meds as my bp is normal. Yes good book good advice

This worked for me. I'm off Metformin after being on it for 6 years. !!!

Although there were some good advise in the front of the book the recipes he suggest are crazy for those that are insulin resistant! I have been testing my blood glucose for a year when I discovered I was insulin resistant and fruit will cause a spike. Also he uses canola oil in his recipes and with all the research how bad canola oil is for the body why in the heck is he not promoting coconut oil, avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil? I would say buyer beware that Dr. Mosley is giving out bad advise on the so called blood sugar diet and please do your research and do not take this man's advise on what to eat...

I LOST 15 LBS IN 3 WEEKS. BLOOD SUGAR DROPED FROM 350 TO 150 IN 3 WEEKS, 22 ADDIITONAL WEEKS NOW DOWN TO 115-120.

I love Michael Mosley and I have watched many of his U-Tube videos! All of his stuff is informative and inspiring!I'm very grateful for his research and passion for optimal health. He provides eye opening information and has motivated me to striving for better health.I am a very obese, 54 year old American woman who has had diabetes for 15 years. For me it has been easier to do several 24 hr. Fasts rather than doing 500 calorie days like this book suggests. I tried and failed. I'm only giving it 3 stars because for me, it didn't work. I have also done two, 48 hr. Fasts which I found easier than the 500 calories as well.A big personal tip on fasting, I can only do a fast if I start with a low carb diet at least one day before. I could never have fasted for even 24 hrs. had I not cut the carbs ahead of time.I think it kind of goes back to abstinence is easier than calorie restriction.The fasting I have been doing has been lowering my blood sugar levels, increasing my insulin sensitivity and hopefully burning sugar from my body and liver like Dr. Jason Fung's books advise.I will buy Dr. Mosley's other book, The Fast Diet and probably the exercise one. I have just started doing H.I I.T and will continue to watch his videos! Always inspiring!Good luck to all! THANK YOU DR. MOSLEY!!

Aleksei Isaev was born in 1974. Since the year 2004 up to the present date, he has written approximately 20 books on the history of the Eastern Front in the Second World War, with a particular emphasis on the events of 1941 and the Stalingrad battle. History told straight.This is an account from the Soviet point of view of the last convulsive efforts of the Nazi war machine to do something, anything, to distract the Soviet juggernaut from its march to Berlin.The overall aim of the first German offensive in Hungary, in January 1945, was to break through to besieged Budapest, raise the siege, and reestablish a front line that included Budapest and was anchored on the Danube. The offensive had no chance of achieving all this, and it duly failed.The Soviets took advantage of having repelled that German effort to use the breather to storm Budapest. In March, the Germans mounted another effort, this one aimed at cutting off and destroying some forward Soviet forces west of the Danube and Budapest. This effort, too, failed, again ignominiously. The Soviets caught the Germans time and again with clever ambushes, they introduced reserves in a timely manner, and they pretty much "schooled" the Germans.The Soviet phrase for operations that stand little to no chance of succeeding is "adventurism", and the tag fits. Still, the German forces made their efforts, and here and there they had partial successes, just as a poor poker player will win an occasional pot. The account details the mistakes, with unflinching honesty, of both sides. Reverses, when they befell the Soviet forces, are frankly put down to whatever omission, or misunderstanding of the situation, or other command failing led to the reverse. Likewise, Axis errors, and how those contributed to the ultimate Soviet victory, are spelled out.Frank honesty, warts and all, is not the hallmark of every piece of Soviet history. Perhaps times have changed, but there is also this: the Soviets, even when they openly air their own dirty laundry, look very good when it comes to these two battles.The author has gone to the remarkable length of including photos of a substantial fraction of the claimed tank kills achieved by the Soviets during the battle. The fact that the war ended very shortly after the latter of the two battles made possible a meticulous documentation of the course of the fight. Today's Russia does not, evidently, feel the need to bury even its relatively inconsequential mistakes during the course of a campaign which showcased the tactical maturity and strategic finesse of the 1945 Red Army---they did, after all, make all this source material available to the author.One omission, not exactly a lie, arguably remains. The author reports, correctly, that during the March offensive, the Germans made no particular efforts at maneuver. They just slammed straight ahead, and got whupped. But why, the reader thinks? And the answer must be, and from other reading I know this, is that the Germans hadn't the fuel to try anything more circuitous.

I was delighted to read this book. I have searched for a resource that could tell me about specific Soviet battalions and regiments that fought in the battles of Budapest to Balaton. This one also highlights the AFV variants. So, it is an excellent resource. Because it is translated from Russian, it loses some of its literary flow and is not very interesting to read. But that is not why I bought it. I recommend it for anyone interested in this particular aspect of the Second World War. However, the binding on the book is weak and several pages have already fallen out.

No personalities. No dialogue. No drama. A large collection of photographs of junked armored vehicles, and seemingly armored portraits of Soviet military personages. Book is replete with military unit designations, geographical locations, tactical maneuvering, and lineups of military assets, none of which are significant to the contemporary, casual reader. It is all very remote. There are no personal e experiences or anecdotes. I gave it a second star for professionalism.

The book personally interested me because my parents were there during these battles in Budapest. My grandfather was killed during the siege of Budapest. The book was well written with illustrations I’ve never seen before. Very good maps showing the battles and movements of both sides. I wasn’t aware of many of these battles and didn’t realize how many troops were involved in defending and occupying Hungary.

Last offensive of the SS led mobile forces of the Wehrmacht and they were just not up to the challenge. A good book to read about Calisthenics! After reading this book I will not underestimate Calisthenics. I for one have mistaken it to be similar to any other workout. Others also have mistaken calisthenics to be a variety of yoga. But it is definitely not!A calisthenics workout session can be accomplished at virtually any venue. It is cheap, does not require the use of gym equipment, fights menopausal mood swings, is not difficult to incorporate and promotes faster recovery from certain illness.I strongly recommend this book for those who want to know more about Calisthenics. As wisely stated by the author, calisthenics is not merely assisting you with a particular fitness goal, but it helps you with total wellness!

The typos are ridiculous. This is clearly not a professional book by any means. I would give it zero stars if I could.I bought this pamphlet (calling it a book is a stretch) hoping to learn to build my own Calisthenics routine. What I got was junk. I found all of the info offered here, on google years ago - for free. I'm also wondering who puts head stands in a routine for beginners saying that anyone can accomplish these workouts if they have the right mindset. It sounds dangerous and ridiculous to me. I'm not sure what all these other reviewers were reading, but what I read was a complete waste of time and money. If I could get my money back I would. It's practically a crime to charge for this "book" at all.

This book has a detailed explanation on each exercises so that you can understand it better and familiarize each one of them. This book is very informative, the context were clear and simple and the exercises that are included in this book can easily be followed.

That's what I want from a workout routine and that's what I got from this book; a concise, precise, efficient plan to start getting the benefits of calisthenic work ASAP.I really appreciated the time listing for the duration of each workout in the 28 day workout plans. I could've appreciated more pictures for the workouts, but the text was sufficient for me to be able to successfully follow the routines.If you are looking for an easy entrance to calisthenics or to getting back in shape, be sure to give this book a read over.

This is the 1st Calisthenics book i reed and so far i guess it did introduce me to the sport but there is no picture in the book and i had to find out about workout in youtube the problem is that some of these workouts has several ways to do and you may get a bit confuse if your english is not that good just like me..all in all it worth 7$ and gave me the motivation to actually start calisthenics.
