After introducing the historical literature, the text examines the several important concepts and models that are found in the early literature. In particular the internal pathways of the extraordinary vessels are discussed in detail. Mental and emotional correspondences and concepts in East Asian medicine are also discussed. The source theories of the Ling Shu and especially the Nan Jing are described in some detail. The concepts of the moving qi between the kidneys and the triple burner are described at great length, and in more detail than in most other books. Historical ideas about the anatomical basis of the triple burner and the channel systems, and speculations about the embryological development of these systems are also described. Modern anatomical correlates are postulated, examining the possible anatomical basis of the channel systems, extraordinary vessels, triple burner and moving qi between the kidneys, including detailed discussions about possible embryological correlations. Although speculative in nature, these discussions compile a wide and very interesting variety of theories that can extend our understanding of acupuncture. The clinical chapters of the text describe basic methods of examining the hara, the various palpatory findings and their general interpretations. This is followed by a large chapter on abdominal shiatsu, and a compilation of traditional Japanese massage methods. The use of hara diagnosis in meridian therapy and especially in the work of Dr. Yoshio Manaka are detailed. The last two chapters extend Manaka's ideas compiling a variety of clinically useful ideas and methods including the system of open points. These chapters on the work of Manaka serve as a good introduction to the use of ion-pumping cords, and Manaka's general treatment approach.

Bought this for my preteen kids to learn some about tennis. It is a pretty simple book, which works well for the kids.

Bought this for my grandkids.

This book contains everything a player and parent need to know in order to begin playing tennis. The illustrations provide an excellent opportunity to see what strokes should look like as well as providing detailed information about the court itself and rules. As a high school tennis coach I believe all beginning players regardless of age would benefit tremendously from reading this book before ever stepping onto a court. Often times I hear parents say they wished they knew more about the game when watching their child play. Let's Play Tennis is also the perfect place for parents to gain basic knowledge of rules, scoring, and tennis etiquette so they can provide positive support for their child. As a parent myself, I spend time weekly reading this book with my four and six year old children so they can learn to love the game of tennis as much as I do. They really appreciate the illustrations and have already both set the goal of trying to beat me. If you or your child have any interest in learning a game you can play together forever this book is a must have!

My kids love this book! They want more stories from Andy Ace!!! I promise you that from a mother's perspective (my son is 5 years old & daughter is 4) this book delivers to BOTH the parent & the child. It is easy to read & truly helped me learn how to help teach my children tennis AND my kids loved following Andy's tennis journey throughout the book. The kids are captivated by the colorful pictures & easy to understand descriptions and they are left at the end of the book asking me for another Andy Ace story! Wonderfully put together. I enjoyed the series of books I love reading it's one of my favorite pastimes. I really enjoy it when it's a series and it goes from one story into another related to the first in the second all the way through. Sometimes I wish that then still the story just ending like a dead it would go a little further into how the relationship has gone on further with the the sisters and their spouses and how they all interact together it would have been a good and in for the whole book could have probably been a whole chapter on that.

The novels D'Ann Lindun writes warms the heart with her stories of tragedies turning to joy and love. I love cowboy romance and find that I get hooked on authors like D'Ann Lindun because though you know there will be a happy ending the mystery to how you get there thrills me. All her books are a must read.

I'm so happy that I found another series of books by these authors. They tie into the Cowboy Up series and it has been fun finding out what has happened to a lot of the characters. Great job keeping the story lines going and keeping the reader's interest. I'm hoping to find more of these story lines by the same authors. Thank you for the wonderful stories.

D'Ann always makes me feel like I am right there observing her characters. I enjoy the strong men and feisty women in her books. Each book is an easy read and makes you want to stay up all night to read the whole series.

This series inspires to put love and family first, no matter what life throws!! Each book is written differently yet all are alike as in values, convictions and overcoming. Must read!!

I have read Shiloh's Song and I love it. D'Ann's character's are so real that I enjoyed everything about this story. Shiloh sings her way into Dillon Travers heart, well not just her singing. Shiloh holds her own as a ranch hand on his horse rescue farm.I enjoyed this one so much, I cannot wait to read the rest. Awesome. ***I will update this as I go through the books.

I enjoyed this book. It is strong on the technical side but not so strong on the repair side. I'm a techno geek so I enjoyed learning about the electrical theory. I wouldn't recommend this book for someone who is strictly trying to repair old radios.

One of my favorite books on the topic. Carr presents a descriptive but very clear analysis of what each component in a vintage radio does, and how they all work together to give us radio. If you're familiar with old radio circuits, this is a nice over-learning tool. And if you're new to the topic, you'll find an easy-to-understand companion that will help you explore and repair.

This is NOT a HOW TO glue broken knobs back together or how to re-string the dial of a radio or refinish a wood radio cabinet. What it is .... a great book on all the theory you REALLY NEED to understand to be a good Radio Man (or woman) to restore, repair or trouble shoot vacuum tube radios. It is technical in some areas, but it is written in a way that is easy to understand. It is a great resource.Even if you are a Pro you will like it I think. If you are a beginner and know a little about electricity, may be ohms law, can solder you will learn everything from crystal radios to test equip. The latter is a little dated. It does not get into great detail in some areas, but I find it a valuable go to resource.

This book gives a very brief history of radio and goes on to tube theory and types of tubes.The radio is then broken down into sections and components,then into troubleshooting. I like this book because the information is complete enough to be a challenge without getting completely snowed by chalkboard equations and theory for electronic engineers. The numerous diagrams are helpful and the information is basic enough for the newbie to understand.

I would say that this book is very good in the way that it tackles the different problems that may arise from antique vacuum tube radios. However, at times the author assumes that the reader is well versed in electronic schematics and jargon. I had to go back and read some passages several times while looking at the schematics to follow what the author was saying. It is a good book but I believe that the author should use more simplistic phrases as opposed to electronic engineering idioms. Overall it's a very good interesting book.

This is an outstanding book and a must-have for vintage radio repair. This books covers theory very well and also the basics of radio repair including necessary equipment and troubleshooting techniques. For those who may think that this book is too heavy on theory...well...perhaps they should find something else to do. Repairing anything requires knowledge of theory because there are no cookbooks for such things. This book is the most outstanding work that I have read on this subject to date. Highly recommended.

Outstanding book to learn about antique radios. It helps to have a little electronic knowledge prior to starting, but well worth the price. I can't wait to finish it so I can do some work on a couple of old tube radios I currently have in my possession.

I have been blessed with 8 children and the oldest is 11. We are followers of Jesus. My aim is to find good literature for my children to read because excellence is a reflection of the God we serve. All four books in this series are simply amazing! They remind me of CS Lewis in that there are so many parallels from the book to our Christian walk that it is incredibly encouraging. The stories in the series are engaging! Book 1 is required reading for my homeschool 6th grade students. My 11 year old finished it in days and then read through the subsequent three books in a couple of weeks. He is now re-reading them. I enjoyed the books as much as he did! That is the other nod to CS Lewis - children's literature that is gratifying for adults also!

This is a war story. A compelling, intriguing, sometimes quirky but deeply moral war story. This is the kind of story that helps us believe that we could stand and be counted if called upon to do so. This is a story that feeds the imagination and stretches the soul and it is a beautiful testimony to the power of family. It is a very good story to have in our moral imaginations.Getting into the early pages is more than a bit disorienting. Like Middle Earth, we have humans and other creatures cohabiting in a war torn land. Unlike Middle Earth, the names are goofy and seem like a long series of smart jokes. It was enormously helpful for me to know that Mr. Peterson intended this to be the "vastness of Lord of the Rings" with the "whimsey of the Princess Bride". I tend to prefer more serious character sketches but once I allowed myself to get into the style, I found that it actually works really well."Oh, yes, the people of Skree were quite free, as long as they were in their homes by midnight. And as long as they bore no weapons, and they didn’t complain when their fellow Skreeans were occasionally taken away across the sea, never to be seen again. But other than the cruel Fangs and the constant threat of death and torture, there wasn’t much to fear in Skree."It is clear from the introduction that we have an oppressed people who are living a shadow of real life. We know right away that this is a story about good versus evil and that the characters we are about to fall in love with are suffering.The first portion of the book uses humor and quirkiness to reveal this tension. Like any good epic, this home setting is peppered with questions about identity, purpose and intention. The characters are sketched with the promise that they will be filled in as we go - but that they themselves still have much to learn about their history and how that will reveal their future. It is a very good setup and the layers are pulled back slowly.The quirkiness dissipates when the hero struggle begins to emerge. We still have weird names and strange creatures with goofy tendencies, but those become servants of the text instead of the focus once the children are in jail.What I found particularly rewarding about this text is that is does not hold back on the need for people to behave in heroic ways even when it may cost them everything. There aren't many cheap saves or easy outs. This is a dark and dangerous culture war and it requires character, love, faith and hope to survive.The family context is gorgeous. It is so authentic. All of the normal family battles are present but they are met with love and loyalty and faith. Faith in each other and in The Maker and His providence.An excellent first book in a series that I can't wait to unpack.I would rate the intensity of this book as being on par with the early Harry Potter books or The Hobbit. More intense and mildly violent than Narnia or The Green Ember but just as moral, wholesome and heroic. In fact, there are a number of things in the text which remind me of the HP books. There is no witchcraft or wizardry but there are mythical creatures who are otherworldly and there are some questions about one character who was human and is now somehow altered. Classic fantasy type of stuff.Like The Green Ember, a new book with an old soul.

I borrowed this book from the library while on a trip out of town. I found myself laughing aloud right from the very beginning, and even stopped to share a few lines with my curious travelling companions. Peterson's writing is rich and deeply meaningful ~ broken up by moments of roaring laughter. When I arrived home, I immediately purchased a copy of the book for my very own--to place on the shelf right alongside the classics, such as C.S. Lewis's Narnia tales. See ~ it's not just a children's book! My children BEGGED me to read it to them, so I obliged.Each night, they would beg for just ONE more chapter. This book revolutionized our nightly read-aloud time! I used to have a youngster who would rather go to sleep at night than have a story read to him. NOT ANYMORE. Now my older children (ages 10 and 7) cannot wait for story time. This book, by far, is their FAVORITE BOOK. EVER WRITTEN. That said--the book is not for the faint of heart. I have a sensitive 7 year old and I was afraid this book would be too "scary" for him. I let him decide. The epic tale of good vs. evil and the adventure of it all won him over. Peterson has a way of doing that.As far as what age this book is appropriate for? I would say it depends on the child, but for a rule of thumb I would hold off until the child has a firm grasp on real vs. make-believe. I have not read this to my kindergartner b/c he would be half expecting an army of fangs to invade our neighborhood. I suggest buying the book (oh, do I ever!!!) and letting your sensitive children decide for themselves as you tackle a chapter or two. You WILL end up reading it eventually. You MUST! So grab a copy and read it yourself, and tuck it on the shelf until you think the little ones are ready.In our house, we share all kinds of "inside jokes" related to Peterson's books. It's become a treasure that we all carry a piece of in our hearts. A family language, of sorts. Despite the fact that our local library carries the series ~ we've purchased each book as we go along. They are part of our family now, and I look forward to the day my children pass these titles down to their own families! A sweet heritage. Thank you to the author, Andrew Peterson, for putting such beauty into the world that we can all belly-up to.
