Kate Scarlata, RDN, LDN is a New York Times bestselling coauthor of 21 Day Tummy Diet and author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Eating Well with IBS and Real Food for Real People. A digestive health specialized registered dietitian with over 25 years working in the nutrition field, Kate earned her Bachelor of Science from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, and completed her postgraduate dietetic internship at Harvard Medical School's affiliate, Brigham and Women's Hospital. She is a research collaborator with the FODMAP pioneers at Monash University in Australia.Dédé Wilson has been a recipe developer for 30 years, has worked as a television and radio host, and has written 14 cookbooks. I am loving this cookbook! I have been on the Low FODMAP diet for over 3 months (following Kate Scarlata’s blog-she is truly an expert in the low FODMAP field!) and I’m feeling so much better! Tummy troubles are nonexistent, heartburn-little to none, I’ve lost weight and my cholesterol has gone down into the normal range! I bought Kate’s book as a Christmas present to myself and I love it! I’m looking forward to making the Tofu and Greens again, the Quinoa Taboule, and the Roasted Eggplant, Zucchini, Potato and Tomato Gratin. The night I made these recipes I had Vegan Friends for dinner and they loved these recipes and they’re not low-fodmappers! There is an array of different types of recipes in the book to make herbivores and carnivores happy, plus desserts and breakfast sweets. I love the Food Challenges, so you can learn the culprit of your tummy troubles. I’ve completed one already and looking forward towards my next! Thank you Kate for publishing this book, and thank you Amazon for stocking and sending it to me!
This is a great book for IBS sufferers learning to navigate the low FODMAP diet. It is packed with helpful information. Though I have been loosely following the low FODMAP diet for quite some time in an attempt to treat my IBS I had not been entirely successful and was trying to really pin down my specific food sensitivities with a strict elimination/reintroduction plan. However, the amount of information out there can be overwhelming and it can be hard to figure this out on your own, which is why this book is so great. TONS of information on how to prepare low FODMAP recipes during your elimination phase and then a step-by-step for the reintroduction phase. I really love all the nutritional information in there as well as I had specific concerns about my fiber intake, as well as my calcium intake, since I am lactose intolerant. Since reading this and following the recommendations, I feel that my diet is much more varied and healthy, as I had previously been far too restrictive. I also like that both authors understand firsthand the struggles of GI issues and have a passion for creating delicious, gut-friendly recipes. There are not pictures for every recipe in the book, unfortunately, but there are lots of beautiful color photos. Most of the recipes are extremely easy to follow and do not require strange ingredients. I haven' stopped using this book since I purchased it!

Anyone who's been on this form of elimination or modified diet to treat tummy troubles will know how complicated it is. Kate's new book makes it easier with meal plans tailored to various audiences - vegan, gluten-free, etc. - that take the work out of cooking and meal prep. The book even goes so far as to include brand names to look for at the grocery store, so you don't have to spend hours reading every ingredient label. A comprehensive guide for the fodmap diet! The most helpful part is all the recipes for those common condiments and sauces this diet excludes, including salsa, BBQ sauce, and salad dressings.
A comprehensive guide to the FODMAP diet. I especially appreciated the list of food additives (sweetners, etc.) so I can finally decipher ingredient labels. The recipes are great and simple for those who are not the best cooks/new to cooking. Everything I have cooked so far has turned out delicious!
I stayed on the elimination phase of the Low-FODMAP diet far too long. Years, in fact. It was wonderful to feel comfortable, but it has been socially isolating. In this book, dietician Kate Scarlata provides re-introduction plans for the various FODMAP food groups that I can follow without having to over-think each meal. I need to reintroduce foods more slowly than she suggests, but I'm having some success... and that's better than none! So I thank you, Kate.
The recipes are Delicious. but VERY time consuming. Wish the recipes had Nutritional breakdown...it is Definitely not a Diet...it is a meal plan!! Be careful not to Gain weight. When my husband was told to begin a FODMAP exclusion meal plan by his Dr. I was concerned that I had little knowledge of what it would entail. The Dr. provided links, but was difficult to understand the scope. I ordered 3 books from Amazon and read all the introductory materials before I was able make my shopping list for the first week of 3 meals per day. His Dr. had highly recommended Kate Scarlata as the premiere resource or the Monash University nutritional approach. It took hours to make the first week's shopping list...requiring three different stores and online shopping to acquire all of the items. I have since found that Whole Foods does have MANY of the Gluten Free items. Ms. Scarlata cites FODY and CaseDeSanta, and they Are also good references. Week 2 was more difficult and time consuming, because there wasn't a set menu to follow, so I needed to make my own menu from the other recipes in the book before making a shopping list. Now that I already have many of the needed products on hand and know where to purchase what, the 3rd weeks seems to be a little easier and a little less time consuming.
I have been living by this book for the last month as I am in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet. I have used the shipping lists with name brand recommendations, as well as made several of the recipes. It is indispensable to me. I partnered it with the Monash app and found they compliment each other. I highly recommend this book as being easy to understand with fabulous recipes and tips. Worth every penny.
I followed Kate Scarlata’s blog while starting my low-fodmap journey and she was a lifesaver! So I was thrilled when this cookbook was produced. The recipes are easy, yummy and low-fodmap! My only complaint about the book is that there aren’t more photographs of the recipes. Any great cookbook has finished-product photos, and while the stock photography in this book is lovely, I’d like to see more pictures of what I’m making.
